Whore?

I heard from Porter today. It was just a "hello" because he saw me online. I guess he still has me on his IM friends list. Since I don't have him on the list, I never really looked for him. And I didn't add him again this time either. I was polite, but I think he's getting the picture. I'm not going to satisfy his curiosity about the lifestyle whenever it's convenient for him. I don't like posers.

I got a nice long hard look at The Doorman yesterday. He was beautiful as ever and the quintessential gentleman. There is still tension between us (the very good kind), but it's not something I will pursue. I found out he is being transferred. It will be to a place where I am unlikely to run into him often, but I will know where to find him. It's a good place for him though. He will do well.

Yesterday we were watching the original CSI on TV. It was the episode where a professional Domme's employee is murdered. One of my coworkers walked in and said: "
Oh, I've seen this one. She's a whore." I was stunned. I mean, I shouldn't be, but.... This is what people really do think. It amazes me what you can tell and show the public and how much of it they truly pay attention to. I thought the woman portrayed a professional Domme in a very dignified way. The character was strong and confident, intelligent and thoughtful. It's just so sad that the casual observer would immediately classify this woman as a whore.

I'm still recovering from a week of very little rest. It would be nice to have someone here skilled in massage and pedicures. And saratoga's mention of pussyworship has not gone unnoticed either.... That is something I am in need of!

Fleur-

Yes, it is sad. But not at all surprising. A la my recent post about the wikpedia description of female dominance- totally lacking in conveying the intimacy, love and tenderness of a healthy FemDom relationship.

In this case, it seems to be the media's way of: 1) creating sizzle, and 2) avoiding being accused of approving of this lifestyle, whereas said media would never, now, be accused of slighting gays/lesbians.

Sad, but reality. As long as this endures, we won't soon see a loving Mistress with her beloved male pet on her leash, walking the streets of many towns or cities.

However, look to my videos next Tuesday for one example of that. :)

Fleur,

I remember the episode, and agree with your thoughts about the dominatrix. I thought that the character was very well portrayed.

It is unfortunate that our culture harbors such a strong negative attitude towards sex and sexuality, but I think that it is slowly changing for the better as new media opens up ever more diverse channels of communication.

I look forward to the day when 'whores' and sex workers of all stripes are again honored for the contributions they make, we are not even close to that point but we are moving in the right direction I think.

The Lady Heather character on CSI has been one of the consistently positive representation of a dominatrix in the media.

A similar character on CSI-NY was fairly good but Lady Heather stories are typically human and personal. What she does is not quite as important as who she is.

Indeed she is presented as "strong and confident, intelligent and thoughtful."

It is sad that someone would dismiss the character as a whore or use any other derogatory terms. As Ms. Millicent said, this merely reflects the opinion in society toward all sexual activity.

The more thoughtful portrayals of SM, such as in blogs like Blesse Mistress, the more likely there will be a shift in attitudes among some people.

There will always be idiots in the world but hopefully thoughtful people will see the whole picture.

Unfortunately, I find myself in respectful disagreement with tig.

People who would be reading FemDom blogs such as those interlinked with this one probably are already accepting of the lifestyle. Whether 'some people' will accept s/m, is probably very different than whether they will understand and/or accept D/s and FemDom relationships.

Frankly, sans a relationship, it's pretty hard to express a tender side of s/m. It just comes across as bizarre to the average person, when out of a loving context.

In any case, even a popular FemDom blog with, say, 2,000 viewers per day is reaching an infinitessimally small slice of the world's population.

It's the other 90% of humanity that won't see these, and largely experience Female Domination through the usual 'old' media sources.

While media such as YouTube, which is somewhat less financially-driven, for now, provide a good sampling of some healthy FemDom representations, doing so on old media probably is not a financially profitable decision.

One might even hypothesize, and I will, that what we see about FemDom in advertising exists because it is viewed as alternative, edgy, and largely unaccepted. Thus, an avant garde fashion statement- lots of supple leather, fingerless, elbow-length black leather gloves, high, black leather lace-up boots, corsets.

I suppose it is just possible that several years hence, someone will produce a made-for-internet-viewing series of a healthy, alternative FemDom relationship. Like other new media content, it would be produced via inexpensive camcorders, digitally edited and posted to the internet on PCs, advertised via teaser videos on YouTube, and accessed via PayPal on per-view or subscription basis.

That way, someone could break even, or even make a small amount of money, by producing their expression of a healthy, intimate and commited FemDom relationhip on video, for all to see, uncensored.
